March Madness Underdogs Preview

March Madness is here. It’s a festival of college basketball betting. With the NBA in the middle of the regular season, eyes turn to college basketball for an intense few weeks of hoops action. This is where stars are born and legacies are made. Sporting drama doesn’t come much better than March Madness.

Underdogs are the story of March Madness. There’s an unpredictability to college basketball which cannot be found elsewhere, and this is what makes filling out March Madness brackets such a tantalizing prospect for hoops fans worldwide.

March Madness Underdogs Preview and Predictions

This quickfire March Madness preview will take a look at the key storylines and underdogs as brackets are filled out across the globe.

Don’t write off the big names

You have to journey all the way back to the 1970s for the last time Duke and Kentucky missed out. It’s a very real possibility in 2021, however. Both these storied colleges are not familiar with March Madness underdog status, but that’s firmly where they sit at the moment.

Three late losses hurt Duke’s chances. Matthew Hurt has shown an ability to take over games. Mike Krzyzewski will be quietly confident despite less flashy talent than years passed thanks to a strong run in February.

Duke could still win the ACC tournament. Do not write them off just yet.

There are similarities with Kentucky. Possessing a higher raw talent level than Duke, John Calipari’s team have a knack for grinding out wins. That hasn’t been the case this season, sporting a sub-.500 record, but The Wildcats are better than their wins and losses might suggest.

Few will be sympathetic to difficult years for Duke and Kentucky. The regular season might have been rough, but March Madness fans will know better than to rule them out this early on.

Wide open Big-12

Baylor are hefty favorites for the Big-12. A 21-1 record makes that an understandable position for bookies to take, but bettors should approach this with a very open mind. They might be perceived March Madness Underdogs, yet the Big-12 is stacked with teams who could go on a run.

With Cade Cunningham expected to play, there will be a lot of love for Oklahoma State. Cunningham has already had some highlight-reel moments this season, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the projected first overall pick shine in March Madness.

There are well-coached teams throughout the Big-12. Baylor open as the favorite, and many will fancy them to win the National Championship, but this isn’t a foregone conclusion.

Gonzaga could be stopped

A lot of people will have pencilled in Gonzaga as champions. Fair enough, perhaps, given their level of play this season, but they could yet be the victim of a March Madness Cinderella story.

The Tennessee Volunteers are potentially a tricky matchup for the favorites. Tennessee has a top-tier defense. They can slow the game down and force Gonzaga to grind it out in a low-scoring affair – could that be a recipe for success?

Just like Oklahoma State, an elite NBA Draft prospect looms. Evan Mobley and the USC Trojans are only outsiders. They’re worth betting consideration, though, again possessing a strong defense and with scoring from Tahj Eaddy.

Ahead of Baylor with most books, Gonzaga are the favorites to go all the way. Their path isn’t as easy as the odds suggest, however, and betting any team to win it all at a short price doesn’t represent much value with the unpredictability of March Madness.
