Are you ready?
Good, let’s create an NFL betting pool.
What Is an NFL betting Pool?
NFL betting pools are where you and a selection of other players (usually friends, family and workmates) bet on an outcome of certain games or the number of wins a team will have.
The betting pool can last from a weekend up to an entire season, and you will each receive a set number of points or choices to begin the game. The games will be for the NFL, and each player is given odds for the team playing for that set period.
Your job is to place several points on an outcome that you think will happen or simply choose the number of games the teams will win. If you win, you’ll receive points to add to your starting total — the player with the most points at the end of the competition will be the winner of the betting pool.
Settings & Tips: What You Need To Know Before Setting A NFL Betting Pool Up
Before setting up an NFL betting pool, you must decide and agree to a few rules. The player setting the betting pool up will be the decision-maker and must determine what type of ‘pool’ they are setting up.
You will have two choices, they are:
NFL Win Total Pick’em Pool
This is a pool where you predict the number of games a team will win, and you need to make 32 choices in total.
You will be asked to select whether a team will win over or under a certain amount for each of the 32 choices. For example, the ‘Carolina Panthers’ choice will offer you two options: ‘Over Four wins,’ and ‘Under four wins.’
Your job is to choose the correct outcome for each team.
NFL Season League Pool
The other option is the season league NFL pool, where you will all start with a set number of points, and you must bet on the outcome for each game. This one will last between September and January, and the player with the most points will be the winner.
The person setting up the NFL pool can decide the starting points number, the points bet limit, and whether they allow prop bets and partial game bets.
You will receive odds for each game, and it’s your decision to decide how many points you will place on that outcome. If you’re pretty sure that a team will win, you could (if unlimited is allowed in the rules) put your entire points on them to win, but be careful because if you lose, you’ll be out of the tournament.
How Many Players?
This is the organiser’s decision. You could keep it between close friends, or involve as many people as you want. If you’re creating a pool with unlimited people allowed, you will probably just be playing for pride, but you could have rewards and forfeits with a select few players or close friends.
Rewards For Winners, And Punishment For The Loser
You could privately collect $20 to enter, and whoever wins will take the money and the bragging rights; however, you could also decide on a punishment for the person who finishes with the least amount of points.
For example, you could get them to pay for dinner or even go to work dressed as the opposite sex. Of course, this will be up to the players to decide beforehand, but remember, if you’re choosing a punishment for the loser of the bet, you need to be aware that it could be you!
How To Set Up An NFL Betting Pool Up
To set a pool up, you will want to use an app like WagerLab. This nifty little app will make things easier for you to track your winnings, points, and league position and enable all the players in the betting pool to access them.
The first step is to select the ‘Pools’ option on the app, click on the blue plus sign, and select ‘create a New pool.’ After this, you select the Pool you want to create; you can choose the NFL Win Total or the NFL Season League option or create your own by choosing the custom option.
To make things easier, select one of the ready-made NFL options.
All you do then is check things over to make sure it looks correct, click on next and enter your pool name — you can then invite people to play through the links on the app.
It’s all pretty straightforward, and once you get used to creating a betting pool, you will be able to go back and generate custom pools if that’s what you want to do.
What Are You Waiting For? Go Set One Up
Nothing is stopping you from creating an NFL betting pool now that you know how easy it is to build with the app. It’s free and easily accessible for all the players; all you need is a cell phone or tablet. You can play for fun and pride, or you can make it more interesting by charging a fee to enter. If you want to take it a step further, you could even agree to a forfeit for the loser.
There are some funny punishments for losing a bet if you’re really into spicing things up, but remember to approach with caution, as you could be the loser — all it takes is one wrong decision, and you’re out.
The important thing is to have fun, that’s what the purpose of creating an NFL betting pool is all about, and as long as you don’t do anything silly (or lose), you should be fine.
Good luck.
